July 14 5:PM
We had our first day of real hard work. After our morning reflection and breakfast at St. Johns
, we got into our van and travelled to Qusaltepeque. We visited the children at the school run by St Michael church with pastor David. Some of the children remembered us from last year. Now the school has grown to 30 from 10 last year. Next year, they will be strating the 2nd grade, however, they have no furniture for the class yet. This is a need.
Pastor David joined us in the van on our way to worksite in Nehapas. It was great to see the people of this village again. The church looked much better. They are building a compund waññ and gate at the present. And we had our work cut out right away. With pickax and showels we dug holes and collected stones to put in the bottom of the hole before concrete is
poured over. It was hot and humid. We worked till 3PM and everybody felt really exhausted. We got back into van and came back to our camp in San Salvador. Another great day. Everybody is safe but tired. People thank the Saint Peter´s church for our love for them. See you all tomorrow.

Wow...this sounds so exciting and I'm sure Sarah was thrilled to see the school kids again. She was looking forward to it. I'm guessing Adam is exhausted but feeling great about what's going on down there. We're all very proud and grateful that you are putting this effort forth again. Thank you from us!!!
ReplyDeleteTired but happy! What a fine combination of experiences. I enjoy your posts, Koshy and the descriptions of the day's activities.

With all this hard work - hope you are all sleeping well at night. The week is flying by, and soon we will hear in person about your experiences, but for now, reading about them is wonderful! Stay well and safe - see you soon. Retta
ReplyDeleteI can vividly recall the enormous gratification that a hard day's work left me with last year. It is true that work done in service of others is most the most rewarding. To be able to follow your progress day by day is great but I wish I was there with you all. Thank you for your hard work. I look forward to hearing all about the trip upon your return (but will suffice with your daily blog update.) -Andrew
ReplyDeleteThis trip is great for so many reasons! I have experienced spiritual renewal, as well as overall faith in others. It has been wonderful to communicate and work with others for the common good who are from different economic situation, language and culture. I thank all of you for your support.
ReplyDeleteWe made great work progress and great new friends. The work on the foundation for the front wall was back breaking and especially in the heat, but very satisifing. Everyone worked as a team under the direction of our friend friend Roberto. It didn´t seem to matter that the instructions were in spanish and workers were english,; there was strong understanding. Special thanks to Kyle for seeing us thru to completion, he provided the task-to-task leadership that we needed.
ReplyDeleteThis has been a special trip. Many of us have made close connections to the people of El Salvador, the Church, the history and Christ.
ReplyDeleteThis place reminds me so much of my original home, Jamaica. I am so blessed with spending time with this special group of Disciples, especially my daughter Desiree. Of course we are actually 13 disciple including myself. This is definetely a wonderful experience. I never thought I would have an important part in actually building an Alter. And with Chris Hope´s enginering and building experience, he made it look easy. We are blessed with having him on this trip. The wall took lots of muscles we thought never had, but in the end it was a work of art. Adam is BUFFED now from carring those huge bolders. Thanks for the wonderful cards and encouraging words. I was not expecting them. I just can imagine how our solders feel when they get letters from home. There´s so much more to say but I type slowly and it would take me all night. I have lots of pictures for you all to see when we get back. Oh yea! the beach was nice too..Feeling jealous Gary?
ReplyDeleteMy email address is cy1by at verizon.net. Don´t know how to do the at sign on a spanish keyboard. See you on Sunday. Clem
